Done deal: Everton finalise right-back loan transfer
The Friedkin Group have sanctioned the loan transfer of Everton youngster George Finney to Scottish Championship club Ayr United on Tuesday.
Everton’s academy is an important asset for the Toffees, as David Moyes will be looking for more youngsters to make breakthroughs in due time.
Harrison Armstrong graduated from the academy and has shown other starlets that loan moves can help them break into Moyes’ squad with hard work.
Finney has been on Everton‘s books for multiple years, and now the right-back looks set for his first full taste of senior football.
George Finney has been impressing at youth level
Everton are after a right-back this month, with multiple names already being mentioned.
Moyes may not be able to spend as much as he’d like this window, which means that Finney’s departure may come into question.
The 18-year-old has been impressing for Everton’s under-21s this season and has proven to be a key source of creativity in impressive outings at Finch Farm.
- Finney has made 15 appearances for Everton’s under-21s this campaign
- He has three assists in all competitions
Finney has played for the Blues’ youth side against senior opposition this campaign, featuring in a 1-1 draw against Brackley Town in the National League Cup.
The young star picked up an important assist, as Everton’s youthful side went on to win the clash through a 4-2 penalty shootout victory.
What other Everton youngsters could go on loan?
Elijah Campbell made his debut in Everton’s FA Cup loss to Sunderland on Saturday, with the 21-year-old now in pole position for another loan move.
The centre-back has had stints away with Fleetwood Town and, more recently, Ross County, where he managed to make 31 appearances for the Scottish side.
Campbell, along with Braiden Graham, are the other two glaringly obvious academy exits this month.

Graham has been making noise for Everton at Finch Farm, with many suggesting that he could become an understudy to Jack Grealish.
The teenager has scored seven times for the Toffees’ under-21s side and is ready for another loan spell after his move to Linfield during the 2023-24 season.
But there are plenty of others who are bound for success at Everton; patience and growth are what’s required.
