David Moyes delight as Everton in ‘surprise’ talks for ‘incredible’ player he wanted at West Ham
Everton are still waiting on their first transfer breakthrough of the January window.
The Friedkin Group have been urged to spend this month in order to match the ambition shown by Everton‘s move to Hill Dickinson Stadium, and indeed to ensure they don’t start falling away in the Premier League this season.
However, with no new signings through the door as the halfway point of the winter window arrives, Everton fans are growing increasingly frustrated at the lack of movement on the transfer front.
David Moyes has even been tipped to walk out on Everton should he continue to not be backed in the market, as the Toffees are leaving themselves at great risk of being under-equipped to challenge for a top half finish in the second half of the season.
Everton look to Youssef En-Nesyri as striker frustration grows
A striker has been at the top of Everton’s transfer wishlist this month, but as of yet, they’ve been unsuccessful in their attempts to bolster the forward line.
However, Fenerbahce star Youssef En-Nesyri has been linked with a move to Everton, and it appears that a deal could be viable for the 28-year-old Morocco international.
A post from Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg on Tuesday claimed that Everton are looking into a “surprise deal” to sign En-Nesyri, with “concrete” discussions already being held as Fenerbahce are understood to be open to both a loan and permanent agreement.
It’s far from the first time En-Nesyri’s name has been touted with a move to the Premier League, and in particular with Moyes, as The Athletic reported he was a target for West Ham in January 2021.
David Moyes may finally get his long-held En-Nesyri wish
With En-Nesyri remaining with Sevilla that winter, Moyes was unable to bring him to West Ham, but he hadn’t forgotten about him.
Indeed, in December 2022, Moyes stepped up his courting efforts by piling the praise on the Moroccan, in an attempt to finally win his services.
- En-Nesyri has been with Fenerbahce since the summer of 2024
- He scored 73 goals in 196 appearances for Sevilla
- He’s currently scored 38 goals in 77 games for Fenerbahce
Speaking at the time, Moyes said: “In Youssef En-Nesyri they (Morocco) have a centre forward who is an incredible good runner and gives them an outlet.”
En-Nesyri bagged 30 goals and five assists in 52 appearances for Fenerbahce in 2024-25, and with seven goals in 15 Turkish Super Lig games so far this term, he could well be the man to answer Everton’s – and Moyes’ – goalscoring woes.
