Everton announce fixture postponement at late notice with no reason given

Everton’s academy has been a hot point of discussion in recent times, with a lack of talent breaking into the first team.

David Moyes has been open about how important the youngsters are at Finch Farm, but supporters have rarely seen any truth in that.

Multiple young Everton stars are waiting to make their breakthrough for the Toffees, as Moyes showed confidence in his young gems for the first time in the FA Cup loss to Sunderland on Saturday.

The 62-year-old head coach named several youth talents on his bench, including Elijah Campbell and Reece Welch, who both came on in extra time for the Blues.

But as well as getting senior minutes for under Moyes, Everton‘s youth stars need to have valuable game time at Finch Farm, which hasn’t exactly been straightforward recently.

Everton U21s game vs Birmingham City postponed

The transfer window is an important time for the Toffees to assess potential loan moves for their young talents, which Moyes and Co. seem to be taking action on.

Everton announced George Finney’s loan departure, with the teenager joining Scottish Championship side Ayr United for the rest of the season.

The Blues may announce further deals in due course, but as of right now, things aren’t looking amazing for game time in the academy.

Everton Academy released an update on their X account this Thursday, with a short statement confirming that the Toffees’ Under-21s clash against Birmingham City has been postponed.

A new date is said to be confirmed in “due course”, but no reasoning was given for the abrupt decision.

How are Everton matching up against Liverpool’s U21s?

Luckily for the Toffees’ prospects, they will soon have a fresh batch of games to get stuck into, starting at the end of January.

Everton’s Under-21s side will take on Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in their next three matches, and could ambitiously end up above Liverpool at the end of this run.

Everton v Liverpool U21s standings

All that’s separating the two sides right now is that Liverpool have an extra draw instead of a loss, but the next round of games can prove pivotal in the race for bragging rights.

There are 29 teams in the Premier League 2, with Everton comfortably mid-table as things stand, and Paul Tait will have to keep his side sharp on their toes after this postponement.
