Keith Hackett: David Moyes to seek clarification after Aston Villa vs Everton controversy

David Moyes will seek clarity over an incident in Everton’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, Keith Hackett has said.

Everton started brightly in the contest, hitting the post after just 11 seconds through Merlin Rohl, and they ultimately got the result that they wanted.

Thierno Barry notched just his fourth Everton goal, with a neat finish over Emi Martinez in the 59th minute to send the Toffees home with all three points.

It could have been even better for the Hill Dickinson Stadium side, and Keith Hackett has offered his verdict on the controversy.

What did Keith Hackett say about Everton incident vs Aston Villa?

In the 32nd minute, Everton had a goal ruled out as Jake O’Brien headed home, with Harrison Armstrong deemed to be in an offside position.

Hackett believes that the decision was the right one, but does not think that will stop Moyes from complaining to the PGMOL.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, he said: “The player coming back from an offside position impacts the play. Despite the protests, it is the correct decision on this occasion.

“This will not stop Moyes complaining on this one. I guess he will seek clarification.”

What did David Moyes say about the controversy?

The Scotsman was not happy with the decision, despite the fact that his side got the win, that was clear from his post-match interview.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the contest, he said: “I could give you a full list of where we think we haven’t had good decisions going for us, so, I wasn’t surprised when it was ruled out.

“I think the one thing normally about offside is they can normally do that right, because they have the lines, and you believe that most of them are correct.

“You know, they are saying he is interfering with play, so we have to accept that.”

Moyes has every right to be furious, enough decisions have gone against his side this season, and he has not been scared to hide his frustrations.

The Blues met with the PGMOL after Kieran Dewsbury-Hall’s ban for picking up a fifth yellow card earlier this season, as they did not feel like at least one of the bookings was fair.

Moyes was then infuriated when Barry was not given a penalty for a foul by William Saliba in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, despite a similar one being awarded for Fulham just one day later.

When asked whether he would raise the issue with the authorities, he said: “They don’t make it easy, they don’t want to have a conversation about it really, they will have, but they don’t really want to, because they probably find it very difficult to explain the decisions.”

The war between Moyes and the body that oversees the referees is nowhere near over, it will likely rumble on all season long.
