Romelu Lukaku return on the cards as Everton prepare statement signing

Romelu Lukaku could be in line to make a sensational return to Everton in January.

Everton remain in need of January reinforcements, despite having secured a 1-0 win against Aston Villa last time out.

The arrival of a striker is going to be a necessity, especially if Beto is to leave Hill Dickinson in the coming weeks amid links connecting him with a move to Italy.

Jorgen Strand Larsen has been mooted as a target for Everton, but the latest rumour concerns Lukaku, who would make a stunning return to Merseyside.

How much will Everton have to pay to land Romelu Lukaku?

Lukaku was an absolute machine for Everton, and his goalscoring prowess has endured throughout his career, regardless of where he has played.

Now, Fichajes have reported that Everton are considering a move for the Belgian, with it claimed that the Toffees are “looking to make a statement” in the Premier League this January.

Napoli are said to have opened the door to his exit, presenting a “golden opportunity” for Lukaku to seal a dramatic return to his former club, where he scored a remarkable 71 goals in 133 appearances.

It’s claimed that the Italian outfit will look for around £17million for his transfer, which, for a player of his quality, would be a no-brainer and is also said to be attractive to the chiefs at Everton.

Lukaku career stats

Everton need additional firepower to progress under David Moyes, and Lukaku would certainly provide it in abundance.

David Moyes is still a huge fan of Lukaku after what he hoped for Thierno Barry

Moyes didn’t know Lukaku much from his time at Everton, having left to join Manchester United not long after the Belgian arrived at Goodison Park.

However, the Scotsman witnessed first-hand the quality that he had, and has often spoken out about the attributes possessed by the former Toffees man.

Lukaku was even used as a benchmark for Thierno Barry to reach when Moyes was discussing the striker earlier this month.

On Barry, Moyes said: “Let’s be fair, if he does anything like what Lukaku did in this country, or even for Everton, we’ll be highly delighted, that’s for sure.”

Not only that, but Barry could learn a lot from the arrival of Lukauku given that they are both similar strikers, and were at the same point in their careers when they were at Everton.

It’s a hugely ambitious transfer for the Toffees, but it would be a remarkable addition for several reasons if they can somehow pull it off.
