Alan Myers U-turns with latest Everton transfer update from outside Finch Farm
Everton’s winter transfer window hasn’t gone to plan so far.
A busy winter window was forecasted for Everton, with David Moyes‘ side entering 2026 firmly in top half contention.
That they still are, and as such, remain on for one of their best Premier League placings of the decade.
Because of that, the Friedkin Group have been urged to splash the cash this winter, and deliver Moyes with the signings his squad needs to push them onto potential European football contention.
However, Everton chiefs appear to be preparing for a summer of spending instead, which has left Toffees supporters frustrated at a perceived lack of ambition being shown by their owners.

Alan Myers predicts further Everton transfer frustration
Loaning out young goalkeeper Harry Tyrer to Cardiff City is the only piece of transfer business Everton have concluded so far this winter.
For many Everton supporters, that simply isn’t good enough, and doesn’t match the same levels of ambition shown when it comes to the move to Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Naturally, the cost of that project on top of the spending done in the summer will be contributing to the lack of incomings this winter, but even so, Toffees fans would’ve expected one or two new additions by now.
And, speaking to Sky Sports News on Wednesday from outside Finch Farm, reporter Alan Myers doesn’t have a positive update to bring on the transfer front, and in fact, it may only serve to further increase frustration levels among the fanbase.

“Listen, at the start of the transfer window, I thought maybe Everton could look to bring in two, three players,” Myers began.
“I’m not so sure that’s going to be the case now. Things have changed slightly, and the reasons for that is you’ve got a right-back and striker were the two positions that were priority, as far as the fans were concerned.
“The right-back position looks as if it’s starting to ease now. Nathan Patterson‘s come in and had a couple of games, Seamus Coleman is coming back, Jarrad Branthwaite is coming back which would free up Jake O’Brien as well.”
Myers drops worrying Everton striker update
Myers may well be correct in his observation at the right-back position, as Everton are reportedly close to signing Juanlu Sanchez from Sevilla, in a deal that would see Patterson move the other way on loan.
However, the same can’t be said regarding their search for a new centre-forward, which is desperately needed considering Everton’s three current top scorers are all on four goals.
Those are: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Thierno Barry and Iliman Ndiaye respectively, with the former and the latter of those not having played for Everton since 13 December 2025, due to injury and AFCON duties.

But, as Myers’ report went on, he made it clear that he doesn’t expect a striker to join Everton before the 2 February deadline, and explained the thinking behind that from the Toffees hierarchy.
“So, I think the pressure on that position is not as bad. The striker position still is something that a lot of the fans talk about, and I think David Moyes would like to bring in a backup, or at least a striker,” Myers continued.
“But I think the feeling at the club is that they won’t buy anyone in January that they wouldn’t buy in the summer, and that’s the key really.
“So, I don’t think there will be a lot of movement here. If something presents itself, then maybe you’ll see a striker come to the club, but apart from that, that would be it, I think.”
