Everton surely set to move for Bundesliga star as David Moyes receives worst possible news

Everton could be about to dip into the transfer market for the first time this month in order to aid their European hopes.

David Moyes’ side currently sit 10th in the Premier League, but are just three points behind fifth-placed Manchester United, who occupy what is likely to be the final Champions League spot.

Thierno Barry’s winner in the 1-0 victory over Aston Villa has kept the Toffees right in the hunt for European football next season.

However, after a new issue emerged for Moyes and Everton, they will surely be looking to strengthen their ranks before the window slams shut.

Jack Grealish set for spell on the sidelines

Jack Grealish has been superb for Everton since moving to Hill Dickinson Stadium on loan from Manchester City.

The winger linked up superbly with Iliman Ndiaye and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the early stages of the campaign, prompting talk of a permanent switch to the Toffees in the summer.

However, Grealish could now be set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a suspected stress fracture in his foot.

The 30-year-old has been sent to see a specialist, but is expected to miss several months rather than just weeks.

It is a bitter blow for Everton, who are continuing to monitor the England international, and will update supporters when there is more news on the injury.

Grealish’s absence threatens to derail the Toffees’ season, so they may now be forced to make some additions to their squad before the winter transfer window closes.

Everton must step up Patrick Wimmer pursuit

It was revealed on Sunday that Everton are targeting Wolfsburg winger Patrick Wimmer, with talks expected to progress in the coming days.

With Grealish now set for an extended spell out of the team, Moyes must surely step up his pursuit of the Bundesliga star in order to limit the damage.

Wimmer already has three goals and three assists from his 15 Bundesliga appearances so far this season, so he provides a big threat going forward.

The 24-year-old has also been utilised on the left wing for much of this term, meaning that he would be a direct replacement for Grealish in the Everton starting lineup.

If the Merseyside outfit want any chance of European football next season, they must get the Wimmer deal over the line before the transfer deadline.
