Everton star Jordan Pickford quick to react as Thomas Tuchel extends England contract

Jordan Pickford is England’s number one goalkeeper, and that looks unlikely to change in the near future with Thomas Tuchel.

The Everton shot-stopper is one of the best around, and England manager Tuchel has joined Gareth Southgate in trusting the 31-year-old.

Pickford played a key role as part of the England squad that went a whole World Cup qualifying campaign without conceding a goal.

Additionally, throughout this season for his club, Pickford has been praised for his performances; however, not everyone is a fan.

Pickford has been blasted for complacency, with the Englishman not having much competition at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

However, the same could also be said at the international level.

Jordan Pickford reacts to Thomas Tuchel England announcement

Everton’s number one is a player that seems to divide opinion.

Bernd Leno recently took a snide swipe at Pickford, suggesting he was not a top-quality goalkeeper, placing him 20th in a top 10 list. However, Everton had the last laugh of their own at Leno’s expense.

For Pickford, his focus will solely be on finishing the season strong with Everton and taking no notice of that outside noise.

Following that, the former Sunderland man will have his sights set on World Cup glory with England.

Like under Southgate, Tuchel has entrusted Pickford as his man between the sticks, so it comes as no surprise that the Everton player has reacted to the latest news about his international manager.

Tuchel has extended his deal at the Three Lions, taking him up to Euro 2028. The official England account announced the news, and Pickford was quick to drop a like on the video.

That suggests he clearly supports the decision, and why wouldn’t he?

Pickford will likely be delighted with the news, as if he continues playing at his current level until 2028, he is certain to remain a key member of Tuchel’s squad.

How close is Pickford to Peter Shilton’s record?

Pickford has been a mainstay in the England set-up ever since 2018, and that has led him to receiving 81 England caps.

That consistency has now put him within reaching distance of some notable milestones for his nation.

He is not far off reaching Peter Shilton’s record of 125 caps. The Everton man will likely not become England’s all-time most capped player, but he could still become the most-capped goalkeeper.

Right now, Harry Kane looks on course to break Shilton’s record, with him only 13 away from equalling it.

But, if Pickford retains his place for the next four years, the 44-cap difference could easily be equalled, and Everton’s shot-stopper could go down in history.

Especially if World Cup success arrives this summer.
