Everton tabled offer to sign Lukasz Fabianski – This is why he said no

Everton signed Tom King and Mark Travers in the summer as back-up goalkeepers, but Lukasz Fabianski was seemingly high on their list as well.

Jordan Pickford losing his place in the side was never a realistic possibility, but having an excellent number two is still extremely important in the event of injury or suspension.

At the end of last season, Fabianski exited West Ham after seven years of service. However, he later returned to continue his spell in East London.

But before that, the former Poland international could have made his way to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Speaking to Polish outlet SportoweFakty, he has now revealed the details of the Everton approach, as David Moyes looked to reunite with the 40-year-old after their time at West Ham.

Why did Lukasz Fabianski reject Everton’s approach?

Fabianski was a Moyes favourite at West Ham, with the shot-stopper appearing for the Scotsman in 153 games throughout their time at the Irons.

When it comes to a back-up goalkeeper, being able to rely on their skills in moments of need is an essential quality.

This makes it no wonder that upon his availability, Moyes sought to work with Fabianski once again.

However, while the Polishman could have joined Everton, he has detailed why that offer never came to fruition, and he ended up back at the Hammers.

Fabianski stated: “I had several offers, from Everton for a second goalkeeper, and there was an inquiry from Legia, and I had various conversations. However, my family and I decided we didn’t want to relocate.”

With his family in mind, he had wanted to stay in the English capital, and that was ultimately the determining factor in his surprise West Ham return back in September.

Did Everton really miss out on Fabianski?

Fabianski has been dealing with an injury for most of the season so far, although he is nearing a return. However, with Everton exiting both cup competitions in the early stages, he would not have seen much of the pitch.

Travers has been designated as the number two, with King taking up the role as third-choice goalkeeper.

The former Polish international likely would have taken the same position as the latter among Moyes’ plans.

The 30-year-old Welshman has yet to appear for Everton, as Travers stepped up in the Carabao Cup earlier in the season.

Additionally, Pickford was called upon as the Toffees exited the FA Cup to Sunderland in the third round. Overall, it has not been a major miss of a signing.
