Everton to take advantage of misfortune after Hayden Hackney transfer latest

Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney surely has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League with Everton.

The 23-year-old has arguably been one of the best players in the Championship this season, with Boro currently on course for automatic promotion to the top flight.

Kim Hellberg’s team are competing with the likes of Coventry City, Millwall, Ipswich Town and Hull City for a place in the top two spots.

The North Yorkshire club will be confident about returning to the Premier League sooner rather than later, but it may need to be this season if they hope to keep their key assets for longer.

Middlesbrough could be under pressure to sell Hayden Hackney amid Everton links

Everton were strongly linked with Hackney last summer, but the defensive-midfielder ended up staying at Middlesbrough.

With the Englishman continuing to perform at a high level at the Riverside Stadium, it would make sense for the Hill Dickinson Stadium hierarchy to still have him on their radar.

The versatile youngster, capable of playing in multiple positions in the engine room, has scored four goals and provided five assists in 32 Championship appearances this season, but Boro may risk losing him if they fail to win promotion.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 19 February, Ally McCoist said, “If they do go up, it then gives them a nice problem. Boro are then in a position where they probably don’t need to sell their assets. If they don’t, then maybe they’re under a bit of pressure to financially sell them.”

Hackney has consistently showcased his talent at Middlesbrough, and he will surely want to play in the Premier League in the coming months.

The midfielder is entering the peak years of his career and would undoubtedly want to test himself in the top flight.

Hayden Hackney transfer makes perfect sense as David Moyes prepares for exits

Idrissa Gueye will be leaving Everton at the end of the season unless his contract is extended for another year.

The Senegal international has formed a brilliant partnership with James Garner in the middle of the park, but it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.

Tim Iroegbunam will also likely be hoping to get regular football elsewhere next season after failing to cement his place in the Merseyside outfit’s starting lineup.

Hackney’s versatility undoubtedly makes him a much more attractive option for David Moyes, with the current squad in L4 lacking depth.
