Everton still in race for Geny Catamo despite recent contract developments
Everton retain interest in Sporting CP star Geny Catamo.
David Moyes‘ side face competition from Aston Villa and Fulham to sign the electric winger, with French side Lyon also interested.
A report from Portuguese newspaper Record on 21 February claims that the Hill Dickinson Stadium side admire the winger.
It states that the interested clubs could still move for Catamo despite his recent contract developments with the Portuguese side.
What are the contract developments with Catamo and Sporting?
The exciting talent has committed his future to the 21-time domestic champions, and his contract will now run out in June 2029.
The report states that Catamo visited the Lisbon club’s offices and secured an extra year on his deal with a pay increase, however, that may not confirm a long-term stay.

It claims that his release clause remains at £51million, and the interested parties, including Everton, are continuing to monitor him very closely despite the fact that he has extended his terms.
Who is Everton target Geny Catamo?
Catamo is a 25-year-old right winger, who joined the Portuguese side in 2019 from Amora.
He has spent time on loan with Vitoria Guimaraes and Maritimo, before eventually breaking through at Estadio Jose Alvalade.
The Mozambique native has played 118 matches for the Lions with 19 goals and 14 assists in his time with the club.
He has notched six goals and four assists in 28 games in all competitions this season, including seven contributions in 17 in the Liga Portugal, which is a very good return.
He went away from the Africa Cup of Nations and notched two goals and an assist in four matches at that tournament, showing that he can also perform on the international stage, and potentially adapt to different circumstances.
It would be a great move if the Blues could beat their top-flight rivals to his signature, as he represents a real attacking threat with his rapid speed and dribbling abilities.
He would likely entertain supporters for years to come if the Toffees could get a deal over the line, but it looks like it will be a complicated pursuit, given how many teams want to sign him and the fact that his release clause is so expensive.
