David Moyes to suffer 15-year first as supercomputer predicts Newcastle vs Everton result

Everton are aiming to bounce back to winning ways when they face Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday.

The Toffees are enjoying a mixed season under David Moyes as they sit ninth in the Premier League, and there has definitely been some frustration from fans over recent performances.

Monday’s 1-0 defeat to Man United at Hill Dickinson Stadium was certainly a damaging blow, and it highlights a trend of poor results in L4.

However, they have the chance to excel on the road once more, and they take on Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, who have lost four of their last five league games.

Newcastle predicted as heavy favourites vs Everton

Newcastle come into the match off the back of Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Qarabag in the Champions League to secure their place in the round of 16, advancing 9-3 on aggregate.

However, they haven’t been at the races in the Premier League, as they currently sit in 11th place, just one point behind Everton.

Despite their poor league form, Opta’s supercomputer has predicted that the Magpies should feel confident of returning to winning ways.

Everton have lost their last two Premier League games, while they haven’t lost three in a row since January 2025 (two under Sean Dyche, one under Moyes).

The last time the Toffees suffered three consecutive league defeats under Moyes was in October 2011, 15 years ago, during his first spell in charge.

It must also be said that Howe’s side have lost their last two Premier League home matches to Aston Villa and Brentford.

Although the Toffees are clearly not the favourites, they certainly have the chance to strengthen their European ambitions, particularly given their away form this season.

Why Everton’s away form gives them hope vs Newcastle

Everton have won the second most away points in the Premier League since Moyes’ first away game back in charge in January last year.

They are also one of two sides to concede fewer than a goal per away game in that time (18 in 22), along with Arsenal (18 in 23).

Some of their most notable scalps came in 1-0 wins over Man United and Aston Villa, and it’s clear that the Toffees like being the underdogs.

Everton won this exact fixture 1-0 last season, and they certainly have what it takes to win at hostile stadiums.

Given their impressive away form, Moyes’ side will inevitably be confident that they can produce another spirited performance at St James’ Park.
