Anthony Gordon transfer update serves as a blow for Everton, here’s why
Anthony Gordon’s summer exit from Newcastle would have seen Everton bank some extra cash.
Over three years on from his exit from Everton, Gordon‘s name is still mentioned a lot on Merseyside, and not just at the Toffees.
Liverpool have been linked with the 25-year-old from time to time, despite his lack of form in the Premier League for Newcastle this season.
Gordon has 10 goals and two assists in 10 Champions League games for Eddie Howe’s side this campaign, and that European form has attracted interest ahead of the summer.
But the latest update from St James’ Park serves as a potential blow for Everton, who would have been hoping for a move.

Anthony Gordon contract twist emerges at Newcastle
Heading into the summer transfer window, it was believed that Gordon had just two years left on his contract at Newcastle, with Arsenal and Man United two of the sides having shown an interest.
That made a sale seem quite likely, and for Everton, it would have provided them with a healthy cash boost, given the sell-on clause they have in the deal.
Those two outfits were said to be preparing a move in the region of £87million for the Englishman, which, depending on the percentage in the sell-on, could have seen Everton pocket an additional £6million.
But the likelihood of that happening this summer is now low, after it was reported by Sky Sports that Gordon’s deal will actually expire in 2030.
It gives the Magpies an extra two years of security, meaning they will be under no pressure to sell this season.
The one factor that could play into Everton’s hands
There are two ways to look at the update.
The first is to assume an exit is unlikely this summer, and the second is to be aware of the fact that Newcastle are in a position to drive his price up even further.
If the latter were to be the case, and if Arsenal or Man United are serious about him this summer, it could actually see Everton pocket even more money than first expected.
But as of right now, it seems unlikely that Gordon will be moving away from the North East, with a clearer picture likely to follow in the next few months.
