Paul Merson can’t believe ‘absolutely shocking’ Beto moment in Newcastle vs Everton
Everton forward Beto left Paul Merson stunned in the 3-2 win over Newcastle on Saturday.
Beto scored Everton‘s second of the afternoon to put them back in front after Jacob Ramsey had equalised for the hosts.
David Moyes‘ side pushed for another goal before Eddie Howe’s side equalised, and the Guinea-Bissau forward missed a great chance.
Luckily, Thierno Barry’s late strike at St James’ Park proved enough to secure all three points for the Hill Dickinson Stadium side on 28 February.

What did Beto do vs Newcastle that left Merson aghast?
In the 65th minute of the clash, the 28-year-old was judged to have kept the ball in and he ran through into the Magpies’ box.
He had plenty of time to pick his spot and ended up blasting it against the crossbar, not troubling Nick Pope.
Former Arsenal star Paul Merson could not believe that he had missed and did not manage to put the game beyond doubt.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, he said: “Tonali looks around and says ‘it ain’t out’.
“He’s one-on-one with the keeper, nobody around him, and he hits the bar. It’s a shocking, absolutely shocking.
“He should have finished the game, what a miss, wow.”
Why David Moyes will not care about Beto howler
Moyes will ultimately place little attention on the miss from his striker, as his side ended up taking the three points in the end, and that is all that matters after a tough game like this one.
The Toffees need as many as they can get in the final few months of the campaign, if they are to achieve their goal of making the European places.
Beto can be frustrating most of the time, but he did his job against the Magpies and scored a crucial goal which ended up playing a huge part in the vital victory.
The Scotsman will likely focus on that, rather than the miss that left Merson in shock in the Sky Sports studio, and rightly so, given the quick reactions that he showed to get onto it after Pope had spilled it.
Moyes now needs the maligned attacker to take the confidence from that goal and put together a run of goals as he did in the last campaign.
If he can do that, it could be brilliant for the Merseysiders’ hopes of qualifying for continental competition at the end of the season, and drive them on to right where they need to be.
