Every word said about David Moyes on MOTD after Everton win vs Newcastle

David Moyes was strongly praised on Match of the Day following Everton’s 3-2 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Jarrad Branthwaite headed the Toffees into an early lead on Saturday afternoon, before Jacob Ramsey’s deflected effort levelled the scores.

Beto pounced on Nick Pope’s error to put the visitors back in front moments later though, as Moyes‘ side took a 2-1 advantage into the half-time break.

Jacob Murphy thought he had rescued a point for the Magpies with his late strike, but Thierno Barry bundled home Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s cross to secure the victory.

David Moyes doing ‘unbelievable job’ at Everton

Everton came into the game against Newcastle off the back of two straight defeats at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but their away form bailed them out once again.

Only Arsenal have picked up more Premier League points than Moyes’ side on their travels this season, and they currently sit top of the table.

As for the Toffees, they have moved up to eighth as a result of their win on Tyneside, and are now just three points behind Brentford in seventh.

Premier League table

Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer hailed Moyes for his managerial expertise and the overall job he is doing at Everton.

Shearer said: “He’s doing an unbelievable job, and he’s a fantastic coach, is David Moyes. They don’t mind being out of possession because they’re that well organised. They’re so well drilled, they enjoy defending. This is no fluke.”

Ex-Everton defender Ashley Williams agreed with Shearer, adding that Moyes has steadied the ship on Merseyside.

Williams said: “David Moyes is showing his Premier League experience. They’ve gone to eighth in the table, which is a relief for Everton fans, because in recent years they’ve been in a relegation battle.

“He’s come in, steadied the ship and added a little bit going forward. He’s doing a remarkable job.”

Can Everton secure European football?

With their win over Newcastle, Everton have pulled themselves right back into the fight for European football next season.

As it stands, the seventh-place finishers in the Premier League will secure a place in the Conference League.

Currently, that would be Brentford, but the Toffees have moved within three points of Keith Andrews’ side after their victory at St James’ Park.

Both Everton and the Bees have 10 games remaining this season, and the pair play one another at Gtech Community Stadium on 11 April.

Before then, Moyes’ side take on Burnley and Chelsea at Hill Dickinson Stadium, either side of a trip to Arsenal.
