Friedkin Group to go big on striker at Everton after £25m Alexander Sorloth transfer update

Everton may have to pay around £25million to sign Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth in the summer transfer window.

The LaLiga outfit would possibly be willing to sell the Norway international for a price in that range amid interest from the Toffees, according to Alan Nixon.

The journalist has claimed on his Patreon that the Blues’ scouting department are big fans of the 30-year-old centre-forward, with an ambitious plan to sign him for David Moyes at the end of the season.

In the coming months, the Merseyside outfit will spend a large part of their budget on a new number nine, and The Friedkin Group seem aware of the need to do so.

Alexander Sorloth season in numbers amid Everton interest

Sorloth hasn’t been a regular in Diego Simeone’s plans this season, starting just 15 LaLiga matches.

In 25 league appearances for the Spanish club, the striker has scored nine goals, but he has missed 10 big chances, as per Sofascore.

The left-footed forward is an aerial threat, with four of his nine goals coming from headers, averaging one shot on target per game.

It feels like the Norwegian star is more of a poacher rather than a target man, having provided zero assists in LaLiga, creating two big chances and completing 67 per cent of his passes.

In terms of Sorloth’s technical ability, he has a successful dribbling rate of 36 per cent, completing 0.3 per game, and on average, he loses possession 7.7 times.

The striker’s Champions League experience, where he’s scored five goals in nine appearances this season, will surely come in handy if the Merseyside outfit qualify for Europe.

What would Alexander Sorloth’s transfer mean for Thierno Barry and Beto at Everton?

Beto started for the Toffees against Newcastle United, putting in an impressive performance in the 3-2 victory at St James’ Park on 28 February.

Moyes decided to start the Guinea-Bissau striker over Thierno Barry, with both number nines finding the back of the net.

The former Villarreal striker is surely someone the Scottish manager has high hopes for, but he still arguably isn’t ready to be the first-choice centre-forward at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

It would make sense to keep Beto and Barry even if the Merseyside outfit sign Sorloth, but the 28-year-old may opt to look for an exit for guaranteed minutes.
