Newcastle United fans called ‘disgusting’ after ‘disgraceful’ antics in Everton loss

Jason Cundy slammed Newcastle United supporters over their “disgusting” booing of Anthony Gordon against Everton.

Former Everton player Gordon had a disappointing afternoon on Saturday as Everton won 3-2 at St James’ Park in a Premier League thriller.

Gordon was at fault for Everton’s third goal, scored by Thierno Barry, and was jeered soon after as he was substituted off.

This comes on the back of Gordon scoring four times for Newcastle in their recent Champions League thrashing of Qarabag.

What did Jason Cundy have to say about Newcastle fans?

Cundy was certainly not impressed by the fickle nature of Newcastle fans, who were earlier stunned into silence by Barry’s goal.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s GameDay Phone-In show on Saturday evening, former Chelsea player Cundy said: “Sorry, booing Anthony Gordon – it’s an absolute disgrace.

“I don’t know what’s happened, but you cannot be booing your players when they’re wearing the badge – that’s absolutely disgusting. It’s really poor.”

Co-host Jamie O’Hara agreed with Cundy’s sentiment, pointing out that the boos were not deserved even if Gordon was at fault for one of the goals.

Ironically, Everton fans also jeered Gordon, while Newcastle fans were once again quick to let Jordan Pickford know what they make of his Sunderland links.

Everton level with Arsenal in one area after another impressive away performance

After the disappointment of losing to Manchester United at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday, David Moyes’ side bounced back in style against Newcastle.

The Toffees have now won 24 points away from home in the Premier League this season, which is a tally only leaders Arsenal (29 points) can better.

Indeed, since Moyes’ first away game back in charge of Everton in January last year, no side has won more Premier League games on the road than the Toffees (12).

That makes up for Everton’s rather poor home form, with the Toffees still very much in contention for European football next season.

A home game against Burnley now awaits on Tuesday, before travelling to Arsenal and then hosting Chelsea to conclude the month.

And on the basis of the past six months or so, that Arsenal game could be one that Moyes targets as the biggest shock of the campaign.
