David Moyes criticism called out as Everton enter uncharted territory

David Moyes deserves more grace when the going gets tough at Everton.

Former Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers feels the Scottish manager has come under heavy criticism during a downturn in form, which is often unfair.

After losing at home to Bournemouth and Manchester United, the Toffees got back to winning ways at St James’ Park against Newcastle United in the 3-2 Premier League victory on 28 February.

Moyes is in charge of the Merseyside outfit during a period that has seen them move to a new stadium and make changes in the leadership structure under The Friedkin Group, and the Scottish manager has got a lot of things right during that time.

Everton fans have one major concern about David Moyes

Moyes has taken massive strides at the Toffees since replacing Sean Dyche, turning them from relegation contenders to European hopefuls.

As things stand, the Blues are eighth in the league table and are within touching distance of sixth-place Chelsea, who are five points above.

The aspirations of qualifying for a European competition at Hill Dickinson Stadium this season are realistic, and the Scottish manager has shown he can pull it off.

What will be concerning for fans in L4 is that the Blues have the seventh-worst home record in the English top flight this season, and that’s something they undoubtedly need to fix to end the campaign on a high note.

Writing in Everton.News on 2 March, Myers said, “A culture is being changed, so much is changing, our environment, our matchday experience and so much more. It’s uncharted territory in many aspects for the club, and all of that has to be managed in parallel with winning games.

“There’s been a particular scrutiny of Moyes during the down times, which I find unfair in many cases. In the end, it is he who stands on the touchline, it is he that picks the team and it’s Moyes who will ultimately be responsible for results, and for all the reasons I gave above, he’s got a lot right.”

Friedkin Group have to take blame for one aspect at Hill Dickinson Stadium

While Moyes will surely know he must do better with Everton in the Premier League at home, TFG have let him down in the last two transfer windows.

The Scottish manager has to contend with a depleted squad, with attacking quality clearly missing from the team.

Beto and Thierno Barry did score against Newcastle, but the two number nines haven’t been consistent enough, with Moyes lacking any other natural centre-forward option.

The Friedkins have arguably failed to back the 62-year-old head coach and should be held accountable by the fans as well.
