Everton risk Beto tantrum as David Moyes wants ambitious summer transfer

Beto has given David Moyes a headache after an impressive performance for Everton against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Toffees travelled to St James’ Park on 27 February, and the Guinea-Bissau international was handed a rare start ahead of Thierno Barry.

David Moyes didn’t regret counting on the former Udinese striker, who restored the Blues’ lead in the first half.

Barry also subsequently made an impression after coming on, scoring the eventual winner moments after the Magpies’ equaliser in the Merseyside outfit’s 3-2 victory, but the Scottish manager is now left with a dilemma over his first-choice number nine, and may be in for an even bigger decision in the summer.

Alexander Sorloth transfer to Everton could mean end of Beto

Beto will arguably feel he’s been unfortunate not to get regular starts at the Toffees this season despite scoring some crucial goals coming off the bench.

The 28-year-old has mostly played second fiddle to Barry in the pecking order, with the former Villarreal star surely seen as someone with better potential at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Despite Moyes’ reliance on the French youngster, it’s clear that the Blues should invest in their attack at the end of the season to add quality in depth.

The Scottish manager only has two natural number nines, and it isn’t surprising to see ambitious plans to sign Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

It’s been reported that Moyes’s scouts are big fans of the 30-year-old Norwegian star, who may cost around £25million.

If the Merseyside outfit do end up signing Sorloth, it’s hard to see Beto wanting to stay in L4, considering his struggle for minutes as things stand.

David Moyes can only sanction Beto exit on one condition

Beto could potentially throw a tantrum at the Toffees in the summer, with the centre-forward still a key player for Moyes.

Even if Everton do get a deal over the line for Sorloth, the Scottish manager will still want to maintain a competitive squad for the 2026-27 season, especially if they qualify for a European competition.

The Guinea-Bissau striker may have to force his way out of the Blues unless they sign an additional number nine in the summer.

The situation in L4 will surely be one to watch in the coming months as the Merseysiders build on their ambitions.
