Everton vs Liverpool fixture moved: Everything you need to know with fans not happy

The new date for the 299th Merseyside derby has been officially announced by the Premier League.

The last meeting between Liverpool and Everton ended in a 2-1 win for the hosts at Anfield in mid-September, but both sides have changed a lot since that day.

The Toffees are eighth in the league and in with a real shout of qualifying for European football, which was proven by Tuesday’s convincing 2-0 win over Burnley.

Liverpool have been on a downward spiral since that match, and they currently sit in fifth place, just five points above David Moyes‘ side.

With both teams meeting at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time, new details for the clash have now been released.

When will Everton vs Liverpool take place?

The Merseyside derby is one of the fiercest fixtures in English football, and the allocation of when the game should be played always comes into huge consideration.

Everton and Liverpool have produced many controversial and iconic moments over the years, from James Tarkowski’s stunning volley to Divock Origi’s last-gasp winner at Anfield.

The Premier League have now confirmed that the game will take place on Sunday, 19 April at 2pm, with the match being broadcast on Sky Sports.

Many fans aren’t happy with the game being played on a Sunday, with some preferring the game to have taken place on the Saturday evening.

Not only would that have improved the atmosphere around Hill Dickinson Stadium, but it would have been fitting for the first Merseyside derby at the new ground.

However, Arne Slot‘s side will be happy with the new time, and the benefit of the 2 pm kick-off is that fans will have plenty of time before and after the match to celebrate the occasion.

How have Everton fared against Liverpool in recent meetings?

The Toffees drew their last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park thanks to Tarkowski’s stoppage-time equaliser.

But truth be told, they haven’t experienced much joy against the Reds over the last decade.

Since 2010, they have won just three times in the Merseyside derby, with one of those coming at Goodison Park in 2024.

On the other hand, Liverpool have secured all three points away to Everton only once since 2016.

Draws have been extremely common in recent years, and it wouldn’t be a shock if that was the outcome on 19 April.
