Everton have made an inquiry into the possibility of signing Watford winger Othmane Maamma.

The Toffees are looking to add another wide player to their ranks this summer, with David Moyes keen on additions in the forward areas.

According to French outlet Lequipe, the Toffees and Benfica have each made a detailed inquiry over the availability of signing Maamma.

The Moroccan sensation has enjoyed one full season in England now, but after only joining Watford in July of 2025, his exit is expected to be "forced" this summer, possibly due to financial reasons.

Everton are among the leaders to sign Maamma, but will face competition from other clubs across Europe for the 20-year-old.

Everton have three rivals to sign Othmane Maamma this summer

Everton are leading the race to sign Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney, but if they sign the Boro star, the Toffees may not be done shopping in the Championship, with a second star wanted from the second tier.

Maamma is a newly-linked name for the Blues, so whether they push on for his signature will be revealed in due time.

Maamma in Championship

As mentioned, Everton and Benfica are two strong candidates to sign the right-winger, but the Blues will also have to fend off interest from Crystal Palace and an unnamed French side.

Maamma has experience in France, but has only started to make a name for himself with Watford this season, despite off-the-field issues at Vicarage Road.

Watford has been run in a rather peculiar way in recent years, with the Hornets now renowned for their quick turnover of managers every season.

Now it seems like, after years out of the Premier League, they may need to sell one of their key assets in Maamma early, which is good news for Everton.

Maamma can bring David Moyes one key trait

Maamma has been branded as an "explosive" forward player, and highlights from his time in the Championship this season prove he is a pace demon.

One thing Moyes has missed on the flanks this season is someone with electrifying pace to scare the opposition, not just good dribblers.

Stats with Montpellier (before joining Watford):

  • Games: 14
  • Goals: 2
  • Assists: 1

While he would most likely be a bench option for next season, when you consider he could come to Hill Dickinson for less than what Dwight McNeill may be sold for, you cannot complain.

We have already seen failed transfers with young talents last summer, so let's hope Everton's scouts have done their job well with Maamma.
