The French international enjoyed a superlative debut campaign on Merseyside, but has failed to reach those same heights this time round.
That continued at the Etihad as Joao Cancelo and Riyad Mahrez gave him something of a run-around.
The result leaves Everton in 11th place in the Premier League table, five points behind Tottenham Hotspur in sixth.
