Everton have been spending big money in the transfer market for a few years now, but their expenditure could still go up moving forwards.
That’s because a recent development – or a hinted-at development, at least – could see things alter dramatically at Goodison Park.
Yes, Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov’s name has popped up in connection with the Toffees once again, and this time from the horse’s mouth.
Usmanov, who has built a $16.5billion fortune over the years, has revealed that he could be ready to take a big role on the blue half of Merseyside.
“I am thinking about my investment into this club,” he told the Financial Times. “There are many ways [to invest]. It is not obligatory for me to participate myself.
“I could sponsor them. I could be a shareholder.”
Usmanov’s business partner Farhad Moshiri is currently the Toffees’ biggest shareholder, but if Usmanov gets his way that may yet change.
