Goodison View: Everton right to enter reported race for PL star who could solve big issue

Everton have something of a right back issue moving forward. It’s not a big problem at the moment, but it soon could be.

Seamus Coleman has long been a fantastic servant for the Toffees, but he turned 31 years of age in October and his best days are probably behind him.

It’s never too early to start looking for his successor, and that’s what the club are doing at this moment in time.

The Daily Mail reported on Friday that Carlo Ancelotti’s side have expressed their interest in Norwich City right back Max Aarons.

Tottenham Hotspur remain favourites to land the 20-year-old, while Arsenal and West Ham United are also in the hunt, but Everton are absolutely right to chase the youngster.

Aarons has all the makings of Coleman’s heir apparent. Plus, there is a belief that a deal could be done for £30million, a fairly reasonable sum for someone who could have over a decade of elite football ahead of him.

The player doesn’t want to return to the Championship, and so Everton could use their status as a big team who could still offer him first team football to perhaps edge ahead of their rivals here.

Although Aarons has played in a struggling team and has been vulnerable defensively as a result this season, he has still performed rather well.

The youngster is averaging 1.3 tackles and 2.1 clearances per game, while he’s only being dribbled past 0.5 times an outing.

He’s a quick, strong defender who is only going to get better in the years to come. With Coleman entering the twilight of his career, Aarons could be the answer for the Toffees.

In other Everton news, a trio of Premier League teams are reported to be chasing a beleaguered Blues attacker.
