Report: Everton hunt for Chelsea starlet rejected

If Sunday’s lacklustre performance at Liverpool was any indication, Everton have a lot of work to do in the transfer market this month.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team were fairly easily brushed aside by the Reds in the second half, despite the Italian picking a full strength team and Jurgen Klopp selecting his reserves.

Curtis Jones’ fabulous strike settled the game in the hosts’ favour, in a result that should send reverberations around the blue half of Merseyside.

Much work is needed, and it starts this month. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the Toffees will be getting a top transfer target in this window.

That’s because Football Insider reported on Tuesday that they have failed with an approach for young Chelsea starlet Reece James.

It’s thought that the Blues tried to sign the 20-year-old on loan last summer and again expressed an interest in doing so this month.

However, the defender is expected to put pen to paper on a new five-year contract at Stamford Bridge and will not be allowed to leave any time soon.

You can certainly see why Everton would want James. He enjoyed a phenomenal loan spell at Wigan Athletic last season and has become a first team squad player at the Bridge this term.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like he’ll be wearing Everton blue any time soon. He’s making good progress under Frank Lampard and that’s set to be rewarded with a new contract.

There’s simply no reason why Chelsea would let him go at the moment, and so Ancelotti and co. will have to move on to alternative transfer targets.
