talkSPORT pundit destroys Everton performance v Liverpool

When the Everton supporters saw the two team-sheets for Sunday’s FA Cup derby with fierce rivals Liverpool they must have been rubbing their hands with glee.

New Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti had gone with essentially his first choice starting line-up, whereas Reds chief Jurgen Klopp had rotated heavily.

Only Joe Gomez – and maybe James Milner – could reasonably be called Liverpool regulars out of the 11 Klopp put out at Anfield.

Yet the Premier League leaders eased to a 1-0 victory, courtesy of a stunning goal from teenager and local lad Curtis Jones.

The Blues have been roundly lambasted ever since, and now perhaps some of the fiercest criticism of their performance has arrived courtesy of former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy.

“If Everton were ever going to beat Liverpool, certainly under Klopp, this was as good of a chance as they were ever going to get,” he said on talkSPORT.

“This is as strong a team as he could name. They were a disgrace. They got schooled by school kids, that’s basically what happened.

“Every single one of those Everton players should be ashamed of what they put in. Credit to Liverpool, but if that was my team I’d be appalled at that.”

Goodison News’ View

Is there any arguing with this verdict from Cundy, really? You just can’t dispute the fact that this was a disgraceful performance from Everton.

Ancelotti’s first choice team were beaten by Liverpool’s reserves. That’s the long and short of it, and it was an embarrassing display from the men in blue.

The Italian must surely now recognise the colossal job he has on his hands at Goodison Park. If this is the sort of squad he’s working with then he’s got a lot of work to do.

In other Everton news, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has delivered a devastating verdict on the Toffees’ performance on Sunday.
