Calvert-Lewin raves over one Everton team-mate
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has undoubtedly been one of the few bright spots for the struggling Toffees this season.
He’s always been a talented player, but in the past his end product let him down. Now, though, he’s delivering in front of goal.
However, there is a Blues player who has impressed him in training recently: young winger Anthony Gordon.
The 18-year-old came off the bench against West Ham United on Saturday for what was his Premier League debut, and Calvert-Lewin clearly feels it was a well-deserved honour for him.
“Anthony’s been excellent in training this week,” he told the club’s official website. “He’s been on the opposite side to me most of the week so I’ve been watching him.
“He’s been getting on the ball, starting to settle and he’s really enjoying his football and playing to his strengths which is getting at people and exciting.
“He’s got a great career ahead of him and he’s got to keep his head down and keep working hard. He’s got the tools from what I’ve seen to be a very good player.”
Can Gordon deliver on Calvert-Lewin’s faith?
Judging by his performance off the bench on Saturday, absolutely. This is a young man with immense ability, and he’s been earmarked for the first team at Goodison Park for a long time now.
The teenager can take great heart from the fact that, at just 18 years of age, he has done enough to convince Carlo Ancelotti – one of the greatest managers in the world – to give him a chance. That’s a real feather in his cap.
But he can learn from Calvert-Lewin, too, who is an example of a young player who came through quite early and took some time to find his feet, but who is now flourishing.
In other Everton news, Ancelotti is expected to make two changes at the most for Tuesday’s clash with Newcastle United.
