Mills talks up Everton swoop for ex Liverpool ace

Everton have yet to bring in a proper first team recruit this January, but they’ve certainly been linked with a fair few.

One of the most surprising players said to be on the Toffees’ radar, though, is former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.

The Daily Mirror reported recently that Carlo Ancelotti is ready to make a £30million bid for the Juventus star.

That’s a deal that, if they can get it done, former England international Danny Mills thinks would be a real coup for Everton.

“It’s a player who did relatively well at Liverpool, he’ll get booed when he plays them, but that’s it, it’s not a huge deal anymore,” he told Football Insider.

“And if they can get in some quality players then for sure, I don’t think Can will be bothered as it’s not like he’s a Liverpool lad and is all red.

“And it’s not like they’re direct rivals at the moment, so I don’t think it’ll be a problem, and he’s a player of undoubted quality and that will be a decent move.”

Would signing Can be no big deal, as Mills suggests?

It would certainly ruffle a few more feathers than Mills claims. He’s downplaying things a bit, here.

But he’s right in that Can isn’t a local Liverpool lad whose grown up wearing a red shirt, a la Trent Alexander-Arnold.

But there would still be a bit of uproar on Merseyside, and the German international would certainly need to deliver the goods on the pitch to endear himself to the Toffees faithful.

In other Everton news, the club reportedly missed out on a signing which was confirmed by a top flight rival on Tuesday.
