Report: Everton battling for Championship right back
Everton right back Seamus Coleman isn’t getting any younger, we all know that. It’s something that makes finding his replacement a real necessity.
He’s 31 years of age, so this isn’t an imminent, imminent, problem, but you’d rather get a successor sorted now than be scrambling for one in a few years’ time.
The Toffees do have young Jonjoe Kenny out on loan at German giants Schalke, where he is excelling, but who knows whether the club view him as good enough to fill Coleman’s boots in the long-term?
Another man who could fulfil the role is Nottingham Forest right back Matty Cash. The Sun reported on Friday that the Blues are keeping tabs on the 22-year-old.
Forest are thought to value the versatile youngster at £18million, and he’s also attracted serious interest from West Ham United and AC Milan.
The Toffees have sent scouts to watch Cash on several occasions this campaign, while the Hammers have offered £12million.
Is Cash Coleman’s successor at Goodison?
He could well be, although it appears that Everton have plenty of competition for this particular deal.
His form this season has been very impressive. Cash is averaging three tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 2.9 clearances and one block per game, with an average WhoScored rating of 7.27. That’s quite incredible form.
The main consideration for Carlo Ancelotti is Kenny and whether he considers him to be the future at the right back position. If he does, then there’s no need to sign anyone else. If not, then Cash could be his man.
In other Everton news, former England international Paul Merson has been raving about one in-form Toffee.
