Journalist: Celtic make enquiry about Everton winger

Everton winger Anthony Gordon is regarded by those in the know at Goodison Park as one of the brightest prospects to have emerged in recent years.

The 18-year-old has been on the substitute’s bench for the first team on five occasions since the start of December, and made his Premier League debut against West Ham United a couple of weeks ago.

The winger has clearly done enough in a short space of time to convince one of the world’s finest managers – Carlo Ancelotti – that he is worthy of his attention.

Indeed, he’s impressed him so much that – according to journalist Patrick Boyland’s Twitter account – the Toffees turned down an enquiry about him from Scottish champions Celtic.

Neil Lennon’s side evidently came sniffing for the youngster, but the Merseyside outfit told them where to go.

Ancelotti and co. are said to see the winger as a firm member of the first team squad at Goodison.

Is this the right decision for Everton and Gordon?

For Everton it undoubtedly is, because they’re not in a position to be letting talented players leave.

But for Gordon, it might not be. With Gylfi Sigurdsson, Alex Iwobi and Richarlison all now back fit, chances are going to be even more limited for the teenager moving forward.

To be fair, he’d hardly be an automatic starter at Parkhead at this stage of his career either, but he’d have more of a chance. Still, Ancelotti wants to keep him around, so that’s that.

In other Everton news, a Midlands club are thought to have made an approach to sign a Toffees defender on deadline day.
