‘They are clowns’ – Alex Iwobi lifts lid on Everton pairing
Alex Iwobi has lifted the lid on Everton team-mates Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Tom Davies, claiming that the pair are “clowns” who are always pranking him.
The former Arsenal star has settled well at Goodison Park since making the move from north London in the summer, and has partially attributed the quickness with which he has settled to his new colleagues.
In particular, the Nigerian international has referenced his friendship with Calvert-Lewin and Davies.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: “We have a lunch and breakfast table and when I first came, I was sitting with Dom [Calvert-Lewin] and Tom [Davies].
“They are basically like Tom and Jerry, they are clowns. Everyone warned me about where I was sitting and sitting next to them but ever since sitting next to them, I have felt welcomed.
“But that goes for everybody, everyone has made me feel welcome, but particularly those two and Mason [Holgate] as well.
“They are non-stop [joking], they don’t have an off button. But it keeps me entertained.”
How well has Iwobi done since arriving from Arsenal?
To be fair to the midfielder, he’s done pretty well considering the circumstances he has had to deal with.
Of course, you could argue that one goal in 17 Premier League appearances isn’t good enough, and even statistically you would probably want him to have more than just the one key pass and 1.2 successful dribbles per game, as per Whoscored, but there are some caveats that must be considered before he is criticised too harshly.
Firstly, he arrived at a side that were immediately plunged into a dreadful run of form, and have been flirting with a relegation battle for large parts of the season.
Secondly, he has had to overcome the first injury of his career – a setback that has majorly disrupted his run in the starting XI.
Now he’s back in the side, and with the Toffees riding the crest of a good run of form, here’s hoping he can properly kick on on Merseyside.
