Report – Everton plot summer swoop for 27y/o defensive mainstay
Everton are keen on snapping up Rangers defenders Connor Goldson, according to Football Insider.
The 27-year-old is understood to be high on the Toffees’ shopping list as they look to bring in at least one senior centre-back at the end of the season.
Marcel Brands is said to have identified the Ibrox mainstay as a potential target, alongside several other players.
Goldson has reignited his career after moving to Scotland for £3 million 18 months ago.
Since then, he has become a virtual ever-present for the Gers, and is said to be attracting interest from West Ham, as well as Championship promotion chasers Leeds United, West Brom and Fulham.
Should the Toffees swoop for Goldson?
If the Blues have their heart set on making a move for a central defender this summer – and it sounds as if they do – then they could do a whole lot worse than Goldson.
The 27-year-old struggled to get his career up and running when he was with Brighton a couple of years ago, but looks to have really turned a corner north of the border, and he is a virtual ever-present for Steven Gerrard’s men these days.
So far this season he has averaged 6.17 aerial duels won, 4.15 defensive duels won, 5.16 interceptions, and 3.82 clearances per game, as per Wyscout.
Those numbers illustrate a player who commands his backline, and whose physical prowess makes him a real force to be reckoned with.
If those are the kind of character traits that the Toffees are looking for then they should go all out.
