Danny Mills blown away by success of one Everton man recently
The appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as Everton manager was seen as a fantastic coup at the time, but it now looks even better in retrospect.
It’s not been entirely plain sailing – that harrowing FA Cup defeat to Liverpool’s kids stands out – but for the most part the Italian has excelled.
To his credit, his team have bounced back from that loss fantastically. They’ve claimed 11 points from a possible 15 since then. That’s terrific form.
It’s starting to feel like the Toffees are finally moving in the right direction again, and you can’t give Ancelotti enough credit for that.
That’s certainly the point of view of former England international Danny Mills, anyway.
“He really has been superb,” he told Football Insider. “When you listen to his interviews, his calmness, he’s been there, he’s done it, he’s seen it at every pretty much every single football club. He builds projects.
“He first went into PSG and he built a project. That was what he was all about. He transformed the whole club.
“It’s not just what he does instantly, it’s what he will do over the course of time. I think he’ll be very, very effective.”
How good has Ancelotti been at Goodison Park?
He’s been a revelation. The recovery started under Duncan Ferguson during his interim spell in charge, of course, and Ancelotti has taken it to the next level.
It’s always a sign of a good manager when they can come in and improve the players who’re already at the club.
The likes of Theo Walcott, Mason Holgate, Lucas Digne and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all seem to have gone to the next level under the Italian.
As Mills says, though, the future under Ancelotti is even more exciting. He’s got a history of crafting top teams, so let’s hope he does the same on Merseyside.
