Report – Ancelotti green lights Everton swoop for 27y/o, Toffees lead hunt
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is set to give the club the green light to sign full-back Djibril Sidibe on a permanent deal, according to Football Insider.
The 27-year-old is currently on loan at Goodison Park from AS Monaco, but the Toffees have the option to make his move permanent for a fee of around £12 million at the end of the season.
And Ancelotti is understood to be keen on exercising that option.
Any deal would be dependent on the player agreeing personal terms with the Toffees, but the report states that the Blues are currently in pole position to land him in the summer.
Ancelotti is said to be on the hunt for a new starting right-back, with Seamus Coleman no longer regarded as a nailed-on first team option.
Should the Toffees sign Sidibe?
You’d be inclined to say yes.
The Blues are clearly on the hunt for a new full-back, but the most obvious solution might also prove to be the best one.
Since coming in at the start of the season, Sidibe has been largely impressive.
So far he has averaged 3.6 tackles per game, and has a Whoscored rating of 7.08.
Those are very good numbers, especially for a player who is still adjusting the English game.
Moreover, he is versatile, capable of playing on either side of defence, and at £12 million, would be a relatively cheap addition in a hyper-inflated transfer market.
Ancelotti knows what he’s doing, and this one feels like a no-brainer.
