Report reveals outstanding Gomes update at Everton
The injury suffered by Everton midfielder Andre Gomes in November was a horrific one, and it’s damaged the Toffees’ season significantly.
There’s nobody else in the squad who can pass the ball quite like the mercurial 26-year-old, which we have seen over the past few months.
His ability to dictate the tempo of games and control proceedings from the middle of the park has been much-missed.
However, he has been making remarkable strides in his recovery, and has been in first team training since January.
Now, it appears that he has stepped things up another notch; news which will delight the Blues’ faithful.
The Liverpool Echo reported on Sunday that the Portugal international took part in a behind-the-scenes friendly at Finch Farm and came through unscathed.
Gomes played the entire 60-minute duration of an 11-a-side game at the club’s training complex.
The contest featured both first team and reserve players, while the medical staff reported no issues with the midfielder afterwards.
How good is this for Everton?
This is massive, and make no mistake. Gomes is a truly top class central midfielder, something which cannot be said about Carlo Ancelotti’s other options at the position.
It’s still going to take some time until he’s fully back in the fold, and so the fans shouldn’t get too excited just yet.
But the worst thing possible would have been if Gomes had taken part in this game but gone down with a recurrence of his injury.
So the fact that he emerged fully healthy from the friendly contest is a humongous boost for Ancelotti and the Toffees supporters.
In other Everton news, a respected journalist has claimed that the club sent scouts to watch a 20-year-old in action on Sunday.
