Report – Mooted Everton target turns down £48,000-a-week new deal
Napoli midfielder Allan is understood to have turned down a new deal with the club amid reported interest from Everton, according to Calcio Mercato.
An earlier report from Gianluca Di Marzio suggests that Toffees manager Carlo Ancelotti is keen to reunite with the Brazilian following a shared spell at Naples.
Speculation over Allan’s future has mounted after current boss Gennaro Gattuso revealed that he had been ditched from his match day squad due to a lack of effort in training, as per Goal.
And rumours are only likely to increase further after it was reported that the 29-year-old has snubbed the offer of a £48,000-a-week contract extension from the Italian club.
It is thought that the main reason for his decision to refuse the offer was Napoli’s insistence that a £58 million release clause be included in the new contract.
What does this mean for Everton?
Obviously, it’s hard to say for definite, but you would be inclined to believe that it would make any potential deal for the South American easier and probably a whole lot cheaper too.
If Allan is refusing contract extensions based on the fact that the release clause is too high, then that would surely suggest that he doesn’t want to cut himself off from the possibility of an exit in the near future.
Does he know that Everton are rumoured to be circling? Who can say for sure, but if he holds out on putting pen to paper for a while longer, the Toffees could have a much better chance of landing their man.
