Gary Lineker heaps praise on Everton star after Arsenal defeat
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin got on the scoresheet once again on Sunday in the Toffees’ close 3-2 defeat to Arsenal.
The 22-year-old has taken real steps forward this season, maintaining his excellent work rate while improving his eye for goal.
His strike against the Gunners made it 14 for the campaign, and calls for an England call-up are only getting louder.
Whether that happens is up to Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate, of course, but the Toffees star is becoming hard to ignore.
He’s certainly gotten the approval of one former England striker, the prolific attacker turned presenter Gary Lineker.
The Match of the Day host took to his personal Twitter account on Sunday to praise the youngster.
“Anything but a mid-table start from @Everton with a great finish from @CalvertLewin14,” he wrote.
Good day for DCL?
Yes and no.
The young striker got on the scoresheet and did so with some style. He took his goal immensely well, producing a terrifically acrobatic finish.
However, he also missed several golden opportunities to give the Blues a share of the points during the second half.
That shows that there is still some improvement and maturation needed in his game. Once that’s sorted, he’ll be tucking those opportunities away at will.
In other Everton news, the club’s supporters have been raving over the performance of one man v Arsenal.
