‘Forget about it’ – Roy Keane makes major Everton claim after 4-0 loss v Chelsea

Roy Keane has urged Everton to “forget” about achieving European qualification any time soon.

The Toffees suffered a 4-0 defeat against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, leaving them 12th in the Premier League table and winless in three.

And Keane is of the opinion that Carlo Ancelotti will have a mountain to climb if he is to turn the club into European contenders.

Speaking during Sky Sports’ coverage of the match (Sunday March 8th, 16.05), he said: “This is the toughest job he’ll ever have. I think he must be scratching his head.

“People saying they’ve turned a corner over the last few months and they’re going to be a threat for Europe. Forget about it, they’re way off.

“That was just confirmed by what we saw today.”

Does Keane have a point here?

Based on the evidence of what we saw today, it’s hard to argue with him.

The 4-0 defeat was the joint heaviest of Ancelotti’s career, and that in itself should speak volumes.

This was a big measure of where Everton are at right now, and it’s safe to say that they didn’t even come close to passing the test laid out in front of them.

With just three shots to Chelsea’s 17, and with less than 40% possession, as per Sky Sports, they never looked like laying a glove on their hosts, and in truth, on another day, this could have been an awful lot worse than it was.

Next lies another stern test in the form of a Merseyside derby, and even with Liverpool creaking a little in recent weeks, if the Toffees play anything like they did today, they will get beaten – it really is that simple.
