Report – Ancelotti wants to be reunited with serial trophy winning star at Everton
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti wants to sign PSG centre-back Thiago Silva, according to Italian outlet Sportal.
The report suggests that the Brazilian is set to reconsider his future in France during the current break in action, with his current contract set to expire at the end of June.
That could pave the way to a summer exit on a free transfer, and it is understood that Ancelotti would be keen on reuniting with the defender, who he previously worked with during his spell in the dugout with the Ligue 1 giants.
Sportal also suggest that Silva could be open to the idea of spending some time in the Premier League before hanging up his boots.
The 35-year-old has won an impressive 20 trophies during his time in France, but could be tempted by the prospect of a new challenge.
Would Silva be a good signing for the Toffees?
It would be a strange one, there’s no denying that much.
The Brazilian is a generational talent, but he’s also well past 30, and if Ancelotti is serious about building a squad that can make a real push for Europe in the near future, it would surely be more beneficial to take a more long term view of his recruitment policy.
That being said, Silva doesn’t appear to be showing any signs of slowing down just yet.
The South American has averaged a total action success rate of 87.1% this season, higher than his career average of 86.5%, as per Wyscout.
He also has a pass completion rate of 95.2%, just marginally lower than his career average of 95.3%.
Clearly, he is still a quality talent, but whether or not his age his too much of a hurdle to overcome remains to be seen.
