Joleon Lescott details ‘worst possible outcome’ for Everton with Merseyside derby up first
Joleon Lescott has claimed that the worst-case scenario for Everton would be for Liverpool to win the Premier League title at Goodison Park.
Should Manchester City lose against Arsenal and Liverpool pick up three points in the Merseyside derby, they would pick up their first-ever Premier League title.
Lescott admitted that the Toffees squad will be fully aware of what could happen should they lose, and that will be their motivation.
The former Everton defender admits that it was inevitable that Liverpool will win the title, but that still doesn’t mean it should happen in the derby.
“They are not going to want – if it goes bad for Man City – Liverpool to win the title at Goodison Park,” he said on Sky Sports.
“That is probably the worst outcome for Everton, so I’m sure the players will be aware of that. But it can only hinder their chances of winning without Goodison behind them.
“We know the inevitable is going to happen with Liverpool but in regards to it happening at Goodison, that would be the worst possible outcome for Everton and Everton fans and players.”
Anything can and will most likely happen during these remaining fixtures in the Premier League, even with Liverpool’s dominance in the past two seasons.
The Reds have been on top of their nearest rivals for some time now, and Ancelotti will know that his side has a perfect chance to throw a spanner in the works.
