Reliable journalist: Everton open negotiations with Thiago Silva, Carlo Ancelotti vital
Everton have opened talks with free-agent defender Thiago Silva, according to journalist Nicolo Schira.
The Sky Sports journalist claims that the Toffees have begun negotiations with the Brazilian, with Carlo Ancelotti said to be crucial in beating the competition.
Paris-Saint Germain confirmed that the legendary Brazilian would be leaving the club after Ligue 1 was curtailed early due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The French champions will also release their all-time goal scorer Edinson Cavani with changes expected in the capital.
Schira shared Everton’s talks on his personal Twitter account on Saturday, with a number of clubs clearly interested.
“Everton have opened talks with Thiago Silva as a free agent,” he wrote.
“The presence of Carlo Ancelotti on the Toffees bench could be decisive to beat the competition.”
Everton will be looking to back Ancelotti in the transfer window this summer, with the Italian currently working with a light squad.
Yerry Mina is also currently injured at Goodison Park, leaving the Toffees with Michael Keane and Mason Holgate as their two possible options for the Merseyside derby.
Not only would Silva significantly improve Everton’s defence, but he would also bring great knowledge to help and mentor the impressive Holgate after yet another breakthrough year in his Premier League career.
