Premier League duo out to beat Everton in talks with veteran defender – report

Tottenham and Arsenal are out to beat Everton to the signing of free-agent defender Thiago Silva in the summer, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claimed on their website that Jose Mourinho is wanting to boost his defence with the 35-year-old set to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

Silva will leave the Ligue 1 giants alongside their all-time goalscorer Edinson Cavani with many changes expected in the French capital.

Silva has already confirmed that he would like to remain in Europe with his next club, with three Premier League clubs queuing up.

Everton and Arsenal are ready to open talks, with the South American defender currently on £350,000-a-week at Paris.

Both Silva and Cavani will be involved with PSG once the Champions League returns in the summer, in their last stint before leaving.

Sky Sports journalist Nicolo Schira has already revealed that the Toffees are in talks with Silva and that Ancelotti is vital to any negotiations.

The Italian has managed Silva before with his time in Paris, and it could certainly be the difference with a number of clubs fighting for his signature.

Silva’s current wage would not be matched at Goodison Park, and the Brazilian would need to lower his demands if he was asking for a similar wage to make the switch to Merseyside.
