Carlo Ancelotti shares major injury boost for Everton ahead of Liverpool clash
Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that midfielder Andre Gomes should be ready to feature against Liverpool on Sunday evening.
The Portuguese international sat out an intra-squad friendly on Saturday with what was described as a minor-knock during the break.
Liverpool could win the title at Goodison Park if they pick up three points and Manchester City lose against Arsenal on Wednesday evening.
Ancelotti confirmed that Gomes shouldn’t have a problem in featuring, as Fabian Delph and Yerry Mina also near fitness.
“Andre Gomes is training with the team so he is not going to have a problem for Sunday, he told the official club website.
“The physical condition of the team, in general, is good and we are looking to recover Yerry Mina and Fabian Delph. Mina has a check on Wednesday, so we will see with him.
“We have to check on Fabian Delph, also. They are both close to coming back to training but remain doubts for the game on Sunday.”
Midfield remains the main problem at Goodison, so Gomes’ return is certainly welcome news for the Italian.
The 26-year-old has been in great form during parts of this season before suffering that horrendous leg break and could have a big say on his side’s fortunes between now and the end of the campaign.
Gomes averages over 50 passes a game, succeeding with an impressive 87.4% of those according to WyScout, as he dictates the Toffees’ style of play.
Everton will need to make use of the ball whenever they get it against Liverpool on Sunday and having Gomes available could be critical to that.
