Brendan Rodgers shares major update on fitness of James Maddison for Everton clash
Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Leicester City star James Maddison is an injury doubt for their clash against Everton at Goodison Park.
The Foxes playmaker missed their 1-0 defeat against Chelsea in the FA Cup, although he was sat in the stands to take in the action at the King Power Stadium.
Everton welcome Leicester to Merseyside on the back of their 1-0 win at Norwich last week, with a big break inbetween the two games.
Rodgers confirmed that Maddison was set for a fitness test on Tuesday, although he remains a doubt for the trip.
“He’s still a doubt, so we’ll see how he is tomorrow,” he told the Leicester Mercury.
“If he’s not available, he should be ready for the weekend (against Crystal Palace). He’s made good progress over the last couple of days, so we’ll see how that is tomorrow.”
It would be a massive boost for the Toffees if Maddison was to miss the clash in the Premier League.
Leicester would lose their brightest creative spark and it would take away one of the major problems for Everton to deal with in midfield and the final third.
The 23-year-old is by far Leicester’s biggest threat, and he has completed the most shots and key passes per game this season in the entire squad according to WhoScored – he has even completed double the number of key passes than second-placed Youri Tielemans.
It’s a massive boost but still, Everton will need to be at the top of their game to continue their promising start after the Premier League returned.
