‘Fancy their chances’ – Mark Lawrenson predicts scoreline in Everton clash v Leicester
Mark Lawrenson has backed Everton to pick up a point when they welcome Leicester City to Goodison Park on Wednesday.
The BBC pundit has predicted that it will finish 1-1, after praising the Toffees for their restart in the Premier League.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men took a point from champions Liverpool before taking all three points with a 1-0 win at Norwich last time out.
Lawrenson claimed that Brendan Rodgers’ strong defence will secure his side a point when they make the trip to Merseyside.
“Leicester have looked a little lethargic since the Premier League returned and of course now they are out of the FA Cup too,” he wrote in his BBC predictions column.
“Everton, in contrast, are already back at it and I think they will fancy their chances here.
“But Leicester still don’t concede many goals even if they are not at full throttle going forward, which is why I think this will end up as a draw.”
Lawrenson is definitely right about Leicester not looking at the top of their game since the return, with the Foxes struggling to replicate their early season form.
Add to that, Rodgers could be without the influential James Maddison, who will face a late fitness test ahead of the game with the Toffees.
Everton played the perfect first-60 minutes in the reverse fixture at the King Power, they were one goal to the good thanks to Richarlison’s early strike.
It all collapsed though when Jamie Vardy and an injury-time strike from Kelechi Iheanacho stole the points in a disappointing end to the game.
Everton had 11 shots on goal that afternoon, but they will definitely need to hold the ball better, only keeping 30.7% possession according to WhoScored – Ancelotti will have injected more confidence in his side now then they had then though.
