Carlo Ancelotti claims he has never managed anyone like this Everton duo
Carlo Ancelotti has claimed that he has never managed a partnership like Everton duo Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The Italian insisted that no forward pairing have as much desire to defend for their team such as the Toffees pairing, who continue to impress.
Calvert-Lewin has yet to score since the restart, and Richarlison scored in the 2-1 victory against Leicester City at Goodison Park.
Ancelotti heaped praise on the Everton duo, and claimed that his advice to remain humble has clearly worked.
“It’s true that he hasn’t scored [following lockdown] but I think that the most important part is the work that he’s doing, also defensively,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“The fact that we’ve done well defensively comes from the work that all the players were able to do, the strikers first with Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin doing a fantastic job defensively.
“I’ve never had strikers, honestly, with this kind of energy defensively. I appreciate this a lot. It doesn’t matter if he didn’t score, because he will score again without problem.
“I never asked my strikers in the past to score goals. Work well, work for the team, be humble.”
It’s a very bold claim to make from Ancelotti who has managed some of the world’s best strikers during his time in charge of some of the biggest clubs.
Players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Didier Drogba, Andriy Shevchenko and Robert Lewandowski have all been managed by Ancelotti, and although impressive, the Everton duo are nowhere near that standard.
Both Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison are hungry to succeed and they will be hoping that they can get just somewhat close to that ability in the future and Ancelotti could be key to that.
