Report: Everton join West Ham in hunt for Manchester United playmaker
Everton have joined the race to sign Manchester United playmaker Jesse Lingard in the summer, according to the Independent.
The newspaper claimed on their website that both West Ham United and West Brom are also interested in bringing in the England international.
Lingard has played 20 times this season in the Premier League without managing to collect a single goal or assist for the Red Devils.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be preparing a summer clearout at Old Trafford, with United having a large squad at their disposal.
Lingard is said to be one of those set to become surplus to requirements in Manchester, potentially making him available for a lower price.
Add in the fact that this is the final year of his contract and Everton could get the once England international for a bargain if possible.
Carlo Ancelotti should be looking to strengthen his midfield, with the likes of Tom Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson not exactly impressing massively during this campaign.
Lingard needs to prove to everyone that he has what it takes to succeed at European level in these remaining fixtures, with the Toffees surely having one eye on that next season.
As well as Lingard, Everton are also eyeing up a move for Red Bull Salzburg playmaker Dominic Szboszlai with TuttoMercatoWeb claiming he is worth £27.1million – maybe Lingard is viewed as the cheaper option.
