‘He knows what to do’ – Southall urges Everton fans to ‘trust’ Ancelotti
Everton legend Neville Southall has urged supporters to put their trust in manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The Toffees are currently 11th in the table and winless in three after suffering a 3-0 defeat at the hands of a rampant Wolves on Sunday afternoon.
But Southall seems relatively calm about the situation, and has suggested that this fairly unimportant period will give the manager a better idea of which players he can rely on next season.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, the former goalkeeper said: “It’s a time for the manager to give game time to people who may or may not earn his trust.
“Each player is going through that. Now is a good time to do it.
“They will show him they want to be here or not. Up to them now.
“He knows what to do. Trust him”.
In one respect, Southall is absolutely right here – and at the end of the day, who are we to question such a massive Goodison legend?
Regardless of whether these last few matches mean anything in terms of European qualification, you would like to think that we are capable of putting in better performances than the kind that we saw against Wolves on Sunday.
We were consistently second-best, and got battered for long spells – so much so that even even Ancelotti himself called the performance “unacceptable”.
And the stats really hammer home that point.
Everton had 10% less possession, as well as having eight shots fewer, and just two attempts on target, as per the BBC.
That’s not good enough, no matter which way you look at it, and right now it looks as if Ancelotti has an awful lot of work to do this summer.
