View: Everton star should not be surprised as Ancelotti reportedly plots summer change

The form of Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has been a massive concern over the past year.

The England international has made a catalogue of mistakes at Goodison Park but has been given a lifeline numerous times.

That has proved that Pickford faces little-to-no competition on Merseyside, with Marten Stekelenburg already leaving the club during this summer.

Having only one senior keeper isn’t stopping Carlo Ancelotti plotting radical changes before the start of the Premier League season.

The Daily Star have reported that the Italian is running out of patience with the 26-year-old, and has cast doubt over his future at the club.

According to the report, Ancelotti believes Pickford isn’t reliable and his concentration levels are a serious concern behind him proving he has what it takes to remain his number one.

With Pickford having a contract at Everton until 2024, the Toffees could be set to sell to the highest bidder, with Chelsea being registered as a potential suitor.

That speculation shouldn’t surprise the keeper though, after a dreadful year inbetween the sticks.

One person who knows what it takes to succeed internationally and in the Premier League is David James.

The former Liverpool and England stopper has delivered a warning to Pickford, claiming he faces an uncertain period of time with the likes of Nick Pope and Dean Henderson impressing ahead of him.

Jamie Carragher even labelled the experienced stopper as “embarrassing” after the final day defeat against Bournemouth.

That level of criticism is surely set to frustrate Pickford, and he must use it as motivation to prove them and Ancelotti that he has what it takes.
