Everton midfielder drops out of international duty with injury scare – report
Everton midfielder Andre Gomes is finally facing more competition at Goodison Park in this upcoming Premier League season.
The Toffees have already completed the switch for Allan and will be hoping to add the signings of James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure in the next 24 hours.
Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies will be looking over their shoulders with Carlo Ancelotti getting his demands met by the board this summer so far.
It hasn’t started well for Gomes less than one week from the opening weekend in the top-flight.
The Portuguese international has been sent home early from their Nations League camp with an injury [Proxima Jornada].
Obviously, Gomes will miss the game against Sweden on Tuesday evening and be back with the Toffees squad to start his rehabilitation.
It is unclear what the problem actually is, but it could be straight-forward to suggest that he will miss the clash with Tottenham on Sunday.
Thankfully, the arrival of Allan should solve that problem immediately for Ancelotti and even improve his midfield.
The Brazilian will offer much-needed grit and strength in holding midfield, something that has been missing for years at Goodison Park.
Tottenham cruised past Everton after lockdown last season far too easily, and it was mainly due to them winning the midfield battle from minute one.
Gomes’ injury will give Ancelotti the perfect explanation to change his team dramatically, and this couldn’t have happened at a worst time for the Portuguese player.
